University of Nevada announces its Academic Agenda in Aruba Gaming Expo
“The Protection of your Assets: An Organization Focus” is the title of the course which will be presented as the academic topic of Aruba Gaming Expo, Congress & Business, an event which will take place on September 1 and 2 at the Westin Resort & Hotel in this important tourist destination of the Caribbean.
This topic arises great interest because protection and security inside a casino requires the surveillance of all the departments. The management, watching slot machines, internal auditory and finance, plays a fundamental role in detecting and preventing fraud. Beyond the traditional game and the frauds made by unknown people, many fraudulent practices are the work of sophisticated participation plans of the people who work inside these organizations. The topic will be presented in two sessions; one from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. which will furnish numerous strategies and techniques to increase the capacity to spot and identify fraudulent actions and the help to design and develop the protection procedures and preventive formation practices.
The selection of the topic of the course was the product of the visit of Cheryl Olson, Associate Director of the Program of Casino Management of the University of Nevada, one of the principal gaming rooms and institutions such as the Aruba Association of Hotels and Tourism. Professor Olson asked about the needs and listened to suggestions from the operators, to create an innovating proposal which would be useful to the interested parties.
The course will be in charge of instructor Darrin Hoke, Director and Head of Excellence Surveillance of Pinnacle Entertainment. He began his career in the casino industry in 1985 working with the slot machine department in a casino in Reno, Nevada. When transferred to the Security Department, Darrin discovered that he had a passion with all the topics related with security and surveillance. This is how his instinct led him to develop a variety of management functions including the ones in his current position. In this respect, the General Director of Aruba Gaming Expo 2010, Jose Anibal Aguirre, declared: “The new format for academic congresses and business rounds responds to the specific training needs and growth of the Caribbean market. The event, which does not exceed 20 stands, all of them with identical dimensions of nine cubic meters, facilitates, with a minimum investment, and without having to move large equipment, technical personnel and costly decoration and mounting, a high productivity business event to which 200 casinos of the Caribbean and of the Eastern Coast of the United States, Mexico and Venezuela, have been invited with an intense electronic marketing campaign.”

Universidad de Nevada anuncia Agenda Académica en Aruba Gaming Expo
“La Protección de sus Activos: Un Enfoque de Organización” es el título del curso, que se dictará como eje académico del Aruba Gaming Expo,Congress & Business, evento que se llevará a cabo el 1 y 2 de septiembre en el Westin Resort & Hotel de este importante destino turístico del Caribe.
El tema, despierta gran interés, pues la protección y seguridad al interior de un casino requiere de vigilancia en todos los departamentos. La alta dirección, vigilante en máquinas tragamonedas, mesas, auditoría interna y finanzas juega un papel fundamental en la detección y prevención del fraude. Más allá del juego tradicional y las estafas cometidas por desconocidos, muchas prácticas fraudulentas son obra de sofisticados esquemas de participación de la gente que trabaja dentro de las organizaciones. El tema que se desarrollará en dos jornadas comprendidas entre las 9:00 am y 4:00 pm, proporcionará numerosas estrategias al igual que técnicas para aumentar la capacidad de detectar e identificar las acciones fraudulentas, así como ayudar a diseñar y desarrollar los procedimientos de protección y prácticas de formación preventiva.
La selección del tema del curso, fue producto de la pasada visita de Cheryl Olson, Directora Asociada del Programa de Gerencia de Casinos de la Universidad de Nevada a las principales salas de juego e instituciones como la Asociación de Hoteles y Turismo de Aruba. La profesora Olson, preguntó acerca de las necesidades y escuchó las sugerencias de los operadores, con el fin de crear una propuesta innovadora y totalmente útil, previamente consultada con los interesados.
El curso estará a cargo del instructor Hoke Darrin, Director y Jefe de Vigilancia de Excelencia de Pinnacle Entretenimiento. Inició su carrera en la industria de Casinos en 1985 trabajando con el departamento de máquinas tragamonedas de un casino en Reno, Nevada. Trasladado al Departamento de Seguridad, Darrin descubrió que tenía una pasión por todos los temas relacionados con seguridad y vigilancia. Es así como su instinto lo llevó a desarrollar una variedad de funciones de gestión, incluyendo las de su actual cargo. Al respecto, el Director General de Aruba Gaming Expo 2010, José Aníbal Aguirre, expresó: “El novedoso formato de congreso académico y rueda de negocios responde a las necesidades específicas de capacitación y crecimiento del mercado del Caribe; la muestra comercial que no supera los 20 stands, todos con dimensiones idénticas de nueve metros cuadrados, facilita, con una mínima inversión, sin traslado de grandes equipos, personal técnico y costosa decoración y montaje, un encuentro de negocios de alta productividad al que han sido convocados, mediante una intensa campaña de marketing electrónico los 200 casinos del Caribe y otro tanto de la costa este de los Estados Unidos, México y Venezuela”.
